Matthew 11:25-30 is one of the teachings of Jesus. Let’s take a look.
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Imagine the irony that things are being hidden from the wise and given to babes. The wise and know-it-alls could refer to the Jewish religious leaders. You know those religious people that are smart enough by themselves; they have no need and so revelation passes them by. Without revelation, there is no deliverance out of the situation, and for that reason, no rest.
Who are babes? Those are the needy people. Helpless and dependent on God. These are empty people, hungry to be fed. God reveals things to such people.
Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 1:27. God’s ways are different. He does not need capabilities and qualifications to use a person.
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
I love the MSG translation of verses 28-30. It says;
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Verse 28-29 is the key verse here. God invites everyone suffering to come to Him. It takes faith to go to God. Not only are you supposed to present to Him, but you are also required to drop your load and pick His’ up. That takes faith too to trust that the exchange won’t be heavy on you.
Faith is the currency for transacting in the supernatural. It is the total belief in God and the power of His words.
Jesus reminds us of humility as he instructs in v29 – “learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart…”
That is how we rest.
