I woke up grumpy as usual. I am not a morning person. My boyfriend called, “Hey, how are you today? Did you sleep well?” I muttered a few words that conveyed I was grateful to be up but not particularly hyped to go to work. He asked if he could take me out to dinner after work and I agreed. After the call, he sent a text message that read “You are beautiful. I love you. Please dress up nice for our date.” A smile cracked as I thought of the fact that he was showing effort these past few days.
Work was regular and over just in time. I drove home trying to decide in my head which dress would be suitable. I had four to choose from and they were all gorgeous. Did my hair two days prior so my curls were still popping. Pulling a look had more to do with my outfit and makeup because the hair was on point. A new McDonald’s had opened close to home so I drove into the drive-through and got myself a little something to appease my hunger pending the dinner.
Finally, the consensus was the red dress. A midi curve-accentuating silk red gown with gold lace trimming in the bust region, gold sandals, and clutch to go with that. I looked stunning if I must say so myself. Makeup was dewy and natural; my signature look. My excitement at that time was 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. Dressing up and going out was one of my fave thing to do, and to top it up, eating!
I was ready right on time. The gentleman pulled up; I went out to meet him. He looked so good in his well-tailored grey suit, unmistakably complimenting his espresso skin. I made him know for sure he looked amazing; the right mix of sophisticated and casual. We talked and laughed until we got to the restaurant.
It was the fanciest I had ever been to. There was soft sultry music playing in the background. We walked in hand in hand to where I saw people sitting to eat. He then excused himself and said something to the waiter who ushered us carefully into a reserved lush and luxurious part of the restaurant. The ambiance was beyond beautiful.
My boyfriend was acting so nervous still I couldn’t place why. He tried to say something twice, except nothing came out. The waiter whispered “Congratulations!” with delight as he walked out. My eyes widened in surprise as the light came on gracefully stroking the flower wall. I saw “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” I turned in shock and met my boyfriend on one knee behind me. The ring case was open with a very exquisite diamond staring back at me. I felt the tears drop. It was happening. My teenage dream was happening right before my eyes but at the wrong moment.
He parted his lips, called my name and began to say all those amazing things. The romance movie script compliments he had rarely showered on me throughout the one year of our relationship was flowing out from his tongue. I loved this man, there was no other explanation for why I stayed with him past three months. Then came the question, “Cindy, Will You Marry Me?”
